During the race, Ford’s superior straight-line speed proved to be a game-changer. Ferrari struggled to keep up, and one by one, their cars fell to mechanical failures and the relentless pace of Ford’s machines.
The Controversial Finish

Ken Miles was leading, set to take the victory he rightfully earned. However, Ford executives wanted a ‘perfect’ photo finish, instructing all three GT40s to cross the line together.
Bruce McLaren, slightly behind, crossed the line first due to a technicality—the car that traveled the greatest distance from the starting position was declared the winner. Ken Miles, who had led the race, was robbed of victory.
Tragically, Miles never got another chance at Le Mans. He died in a crash during testing later that year. His legacy, however, remains one of the greatest in racing history.
